WS FREEDOM SCHOOL - CALL FOR TEACHING MUSICIANS

The Winston Salem Freedom Schools are looking for four musicians to teach elementary/middle school students drumming and guitar. Below are the schools/ campuses the Freedom Schools are wanting teachers for, and the requirements and specifications for the roles.
Sunnyside Freedom School
Location: 2323 Sunnyside Ave., WS 27127
Purpose: to teach beginning djembe drums to 10, upper-elementary/middle school age scholars;
Frequency: 2x per week; days TBD
Time requested: one hour per session, either 1-2pm or 2-3pm
WFU Freedom School
Location: WFU Campus
Purpose: to teach beginning djembe drums to 10, upper elementary age scholars;
Frequency: 2x per week; days TBD
Time requested: one hour per session, either 1-2pm or 2-3pm
Old Town Community Freedom School
Location; Old Town Elementary School, 3930 Reynolda Road, WS 27106
Artists are requested for beginning djembe drums and beginning guitar.
Artist 1: Purpose: to teach beginning djembe drums to 10, middle elementary age scholars;
Frequency: 2x per week; days TBD
Time requested: one hour per session, either 1-2pm or 2-3pm
Artist 2: Purpose: to teach beginning guitar to 10, elementary age scholars;
Frequency: 2x per week; days TBD
Time requested: one hour per session, either 1-2pm or 2-3pm

PATHWAYS FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL SUCCESS - 6 WEEK ENTREPRENEURIAL MINDSET TRAINING COURSE

Pathways is an entrepreneurial mindset training 6-week course that supports those who are looking to become an entrepreneur or very early-stage entrepreneurs. Due to grant funding, the program is offered free but limited to Winston-Salem residents from low-to-moderate income households.
Applications for the next cohort are now open and set to close on March 19th. The program runs from March 26 – April 30 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm on Tuesday evenings.
FORSYTH COUNTY LIBRARY - ARTIST IN RESIDENCY PROGRAM
The Forsyth County Public Library invites emerging and established artists in the Forsyth County area to apply for its second Artist-in-Residence program. We are looking for artists in all disciplines to share their creative process with the community through time spent at branches and with the Library Outreach division, collaborating with Library staff to provide educational programs or discussions.
The Artist-in-Residence program will culminate with a final project to be presented at the Forsyth County Central Library. The Central Library is a state-of-the-art facility that includes a Makerspace, an art gallery, a sound-editing studio and a 280-seat auditorium with a drop-down screen and sound system, all situated on a beautiful campus with a grass lawn and reading garden in downtown Winston-Salem.
Two artists will be chosen for residency, and each will receive a $6,000 stipend plus a materials budget of $1,500, with additional programming supplies provided by the library.
BOSTON THURMOND PUBLIC ART PROJECT
DEADLINE: MARCH 29, 2024, BY 11:59 PM EST
The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Art Commission is accepting proposals for the Boston- Thurmond Utility Box Public Art Project. Boston- Thurmond is a historically Black residential neighborhood north of downtown Winston-Salem. Residents have been working together to develop and revitalize aspects of the neighborhood, with the Utility Box Public Art Project acting as one of the beatification projects. Their hope is that the artwork will instill a sense of pride with the neighborhood.
SAWTOOTH SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS RESIDENCIES
DEADLINE MAY 15, 2024
For nearly 80 years, Sawtooth has been a creative hub for the region – an energetic craft school environment in downtown Winston – Salem, NC. Our year-long Artists-in-Residence programs encourage the development of new skills, connections, and bodies of work while assisting with studio operations.
Ceramic Residents, 2 in wood firing and 1 in electric/gas firing are given 24/7 access to studio space, material at cost, free firings, and the opportunity to teach, inspire, and energize our community.
The Gondring Resident in Woodworking will receive round-the-clock access to Wood and Lathe studios, a semi-private studio space, and a $3,000 stipend in exchange for working several hours per week.
Residents are chosen by the Studio Directors, along with a rotating jury. Applicants are evaluated based on the quality of their work, their dedication to their craft, and their willingness to bring fresh perspectives to the creative community at Sawtooth .
Applications are due May 15, 2024. The residencies will start August 1, 2024, and end July 31, 2025
ARTS COUNCIL OF WINSTON SALEM GIFT SHOP
DEADLINE MARCH 31, 2024
Arts Council of Winston Salem is looking for new artists to add to our Milton Rhodes Gift Shop. Attached to this email is a form for you to fill out if you or anyone else you know is interested. The Arts Council does prefer that artists be from the Winston Salem area.
The Community Arts Gift Shop promotes awareness and sales of a wide variety of stunning artistic creations by numerous local artists from across our diverse community, thereby inspiring them to continue and extend their entrepreneurial creative endeavors. It is an open and welcoming location – adjacent to our Main Gallery, front desk, and Every Corner Gallery – that encourages artists as well as visitors to explore and engage with our community’s constellation of amazing arts and culture experiences.
We encourage artists of all mediums to apply. But we are specifically looking for printmaking, textile, photography, fine jewelry, ceramics, wall art, and wood artists. All artwork sales are a 70%/30% split between the artists/Arts Council.
