“Go Big or Go Home” is a free, community-centered percussion concert designed to make percussion performance accessible to all. As one of the youngest and fastest-evolving instrument families, percussion continues to push artistic boundaries with new works and techniques. Yet large-scale percussion concerts rarely find their way into public venues beyond the university setting. Featuring a dynamic program of contemporary compositions and arrangements, this concert promises to engage and inspire music lovers of all kinds.​

 

Benjamin Burson, the event’s organizer, is a percussionist and graduating student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. With a deep commitment to community engagement, Benjamin is a third-year percussion fellow with the Piedmont Wind Symphony and the creator of The Percussion Discussion, a YouTube channel offering free educational content for percussionists of all levels.​

 

This concert serves as a capstone to Benjamin’s undergraduate journey—replacing a traditional senior recital with a gift to the Winston-Salem arts community.

This free, public event aims to:

· Enrich the community through innovative and accessible music-making.

· Build connections across diverse audiences through shared artistic experiences.

· Offer interactive educational opportunities during pre-show events.

· Uplift local artists and businesses through collaboration and visibility.

Funds raised will support essential production needs, including:

· Lighting design, rental, and installation.

· Payroll for audio/visual and technical staff.

· Instrument rental, transportation, and logistics.

· Marketing, outreach, and promotional materials.
