Lyrics by the Lake to host festival at Tanglewood Park on May 18
Free community celebration features music, poetry, arts market, and more

Winston-Salem, NC (May 5, 2025) – A staple of Winston-Salem’s summer cultural programming announces a shift for 2025: Lyrics by the Lake, formerly a ticketed monthly event series, will host a one-day festival free to the public at Tanglewood Park on Sunday, May 18 from 2-6pm.
Lyrics by the Lake is a community-based cultural arts series that features musical performances from local and touring artists, spoken word poetry, comedy, live painting, and a vendors market. Hosted by LB the Poet and Corey “Mr. Petty” Jones, the event has drawn hundreds of attendees over its last four years in residence at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Winston-Salem (formerly SECCA).
This summer’s change of venue to the Tanglewood Park Band Shell will allow for a greater number of attendees, a bigger stage, and a larger vendors market including food vendors. “We’re so grateful for the four seasons of programming that we hosted at SECCA, and are excited to continue to grow the event and explore new venues”, says Lyrics by the Lake co-founder E’laina Barron. “While previous years have included four or five events per season, Lyrics by the Lake: Live at Tanglewood Park will be our one event this season, so you don’t want to miss it!”
The festival-style event will feature performances from returning crowd favorites and new guests including W.O.R.D. Society (Writers Of Raw Distinction), neo-soul musician Flower in Bloom, Charlotte-based songwriter and MC Tukool Tiff, hip-hop and soul artist Troya, Winston-Salem musician KamDoja, and DJ Micki Blendz.
Lyrics by the Lake: Live at Tanglewood Park is part of Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County’s 10th Annual Parks Concert Series, produced in partnership with the Forsyth County Government. The concert series provides free, family-friendly concerts showcasing local and national musicians in beautiful outdoor venues. The next installment of the Parks Concert Series will feature The Martha Bassett Show at Tanglewood Park on Sunday, June 22.
This concert takes place at at the Tanglewood Park Band Shell (4061 Clemmons Rd, Clemmons, NC). Free parking is available adjacent to the band shell. Gates open at 1pm; the concert will be 2-6pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs, and may bring a picnic or purchase food from vendors onsite. Wine, beer, and water will be available for purchase, with all proceeds supporting Arts Council. No outside alcohol is permitted.
