Camp Sawtooth 2024 Artist Instructor

Camp Sawtooth runs for 8 weeks, JUNE 17- AUGUST 9, and offers classes for students aged 6-8, 9-11, and 12-16. We have morning and afternoon classes Monday-Friday, with the morning classes running from 9 am to 12 pm and the afternoon classes from 1 pm to 4 pm. Instructors can select their preferred teaching times and weeks.

At our summer program, we keep our class sizes small, with a maximum of eight students, to ensure individualized attention for each student. We also schedule breaks throughout the day to ensure that students remain refreshed and focused. In each classroom, an intern will provide assistance to the instructors by managing supplies, students, and studio requirements. The instructors are responsible for delegating tasks and communicating with the interns.

As an Artist Instructor, you will play a vital role in facilitating an engaging and educational experience for young students. You will be responsible for creating lesson plans that are both fun and informative, taking into account the interests and skill levels of your students. In addition, you will also be responsible for managing the classroom, ensuring that all students are engaged and on-task while maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment. You will need to be organized and detail-oriented, keeping track of supplies and equipment needed for each lesson. As well as, ensuring studio maintenance and cleanliness. Finally, you will work closely with the Director of Youth Programs to ensure that all aspects of the program are implemented effectively and efficiently.

  • Artist Instructors are hired as contractual employees and are compensated based on an hourly rate for the time they spend teaching in the classroom.

  • Instructors receive the option to audit one adult course per session, schedule access in the studios to work, and discounts for workshops, family members, and the gift shop. Provided they’ve taught a class in the current session or the previous one.

  • Working as an instructor at Sawtooth provides an opportunity to explore and grow as an artist while being part of a vast community of artists at one of the region’s oldest community art schools.

  • Possess qualities such as reliability, adaptability, curiosity, friendliness, and open-mindedness.

  • Have practical knowledge when it comes to engaging and managing children.

  • Ability to communicate frequently via email and/or text.

  • Maintain trust and professionalism while keeping up with the expected timelines.

  • Commit to teaching for your schedule time, dedicating at least 18 hours per week.

  • While many of our instructors hold a degree or teaching certification, it is not a requirement. We have a mix of experienced professionals and talented, emerging artists.

After reviewing your application, we'll invite you for an interview to discuss your proposal and provide more information about our Youth Program. Once you're invited to teach a class, we'll complete the final paperwork, including a W-9 form, background check, and direct deposit for payment.

The pay range is $20/hour for this contract position.
