Award-Winning ‘Latingrass’ Duo Takes the Stage

Winston-Salem, NC (September 11, 2024) – Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County in collaboration with Music Carolina present famed “latingrass” musical duo LARRY & JOE: Live in Concert on Sunday, September 15. The concert takes place at Reynolds Place Theatre in the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts at 7:30pm.

Currently based in the Triangle of North Carolina, LARRY & JOE are versatile multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters on a mission to show that music has no borders. As a duo, they perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, maracas, guitar, upright bass, and whatever else they decide to throw in the van. The program they offer features a distinct blend of their musical inheritances and traditions as well as storytelling about the ways that music and social movements coalesce.

Celebrating the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month, this concert includes a free bilingual musical workshop at 4:00pm introducing gaban, a Venezuelan folk musical form. Community members are invited to bring instruments to participate, or learn the rhythm and clap along.

The performance and workshop are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the North Carolina Arts Council.

Tickets for the concert range from $25 - $50 (VIP tickets include a pre-show meet & greet reception) and are available online at intothearts.org/larry-and-joe or in-person at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts box office.

Larry & Joe: Live in Concert takes place at Reynolds Place Theatre in the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts (251 N Spruce Street, Winston-Salem). The free public workshop takes place at 4pm. Doors open for the concert at 7:00pm. The concert begins at 7:30pm and will be followed by a Q&A with the musicians and Music Carolina.

The concert is presented as part of Music Carolina’s SummerFest 2024: Music Without Borders, a series which promises a musical journey that reflects the richness of the global music landscape and invites audiences to experience the beauty of diverse musical genres, styles, and traditions. SummerFest organizers Joe Mount and Matt Kendrick have curated a lineup that showcases the interconnectedness of music across cultures including jazz, classical chamber music, opera, global music, and Latin folk music.
