“Hope for the Hills” concert on December 5 to showcase local talent for a cause
Winston-Salem, NC (October 29, 2024) – Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County announces two events to aid Western North Carolinians impacted by Hurricane Helene: a blood drive and a benefit concert showcasing local performers.
On Monday, November 25, the organization will host a blood drive with OneBlood from 10:00am-3:00pm in the parking lot of Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts (251 N Spruce Street). All donors will receive a $20 eGift Card, a wellness checkup, and other promotional gifts. Blood donors can make an appointment at oneblood.org/donate-now and use sponsor code 75769.
On Thursday, December 5, Arts Council will host Hope for the Hills: A Showcase Benefiting Western NC. This exclusive evening of arts entertainment features acts from local performers, food from local vendors, and an auction of art provided by local artists. All ticket proceeds and donations collected will go to the NC Arts Disaster Relief Fund which supports artists and arts organizations in western North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Applications are open for artists interested in participating in the December 5 benefit concert. Musicians, comedians, theatre groups, dancers, and performing artists of all genres are invited to apply to participate at intothearts.org/hope-for-the-hills. Submissions are due by 11:00pm on November 11, and performers will be notified of selection by the end of day on November 13.
Visual artists and craftspeople interested in donating works to the auction, and food vendors interested in donating to the reception can also submit information by November 14 at intothearts.org/hope-for-the-hills.
Hope for the Hills: A Showcase Benefiting Western NC will take place on Thursday, December 5 at Hanesbrands Theatre (209 N Spruce Street). The pre-show reception and auction begin at 6:00pm; performances begin at 7:00pm. Tickets start at $20 and are on sale now at intothearts.org/hope-for-the-hills.
Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County is the leading advocate of arts in our region and seeks to enhance and support the local artistic and cultural landscape. Established in 1949 as the first arts council in the nation, the pioneering organization is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2024. Arts Council owns and operates a campus which includes Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts and Hanesbrands Theatre. In 2023, it hosted 670 on-campus events with 60,000 attendees and in FY24 distributed over $1.4 million in grants and programs, benefiting over 800,000 people. Additionally, Arts Council is the largest funder of Arts Education for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
