This is a free, interactive program built to help artisans, crafters, artpreneurs, product-based entrepreneurs and makers strengthen both the mindset and practical skills needed to turn their creative passions into sustainable businesses.  What is upstART? upstART is a two-day, hands-on workshop rooted in the book Who Owns the Ice House?, designed to help participants explore and strengthen key entrepreneurial mindsets (think vision, risk-taking, and resilience) while also building business skills around sales, branding, and vendor readiness.  At the end of the program, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their progress by vending at a local public market. All workshop materials, vending fees, and even a stipend for booth setup are fully covered by the program.  Program Details: 


Day 1: Friday, August 8th | 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM 

Day 2: Saturday, August 9th | 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM

CRISIS CONTROL'S MINISTRY'S

2025 HOLIDAY HONOR CARD

Entry Deadline: July 31, 2025


Open to all professional visual artists in the Northwest Piedmont North Carolina region, including the following counties: Forsyth, Guilford, Stokes, Surry, Yadkin, and Wilkes


Entry Requirements:

• Artwork must be the original work created by the applicant.

• A high-quality scan of the art must be available for reproduction. Acceptable files include

.tif or .jpg, CMYK, 300 dpi, no smaller than 5” x 7”.

• Submissions are limited to 3 entries per artist.

• Card dimensions – 5” x 7” will be the final reproduction size.

• Apply and submit artwork at www.crisiscontrol.org/callforartists


Holiday Art Categories

• winter scenes/landscapes, holiday themes or symbols of the season


Artist Selection Process:

Submission deadline is July 31, 2025.

Award will be announced by September 1, 2025.


Judging:

Selected artwork will be based upon theme, artistry and imagination and marketability, answering the question, will the art sell on a holiday card?


Awards

A license fee of $500 is paid to the artist for selected art.

Artist receives local recognition through the distribution of catalogs, promotional pieces, website, social media, and other marketing. An artist’s profile will be featured on the Holiday Honor Card website (ccmcard.org).


Reproduction Rights for the Winning Artwork

The artist retains ownership and copyright of the artwork.

The artist grants Crisis Control Ministry the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute the artwork on Crisis Control Ministry's holiday honor cards for a period of five years.

The artist’s name and title appear on the back of each card.

Crisis Control Ministry may modify the title and/or add a border, design element, or title to the art to create a suitable, marketable holiday card.


About Crisis Control Ministry’s Holiday Honor Card Program

For 38 years, local artists have created the Holiday Honor Card for Crisis Control Ministry. This fundraiser is the perfect way to give a meaningful alternative holiday gift to people. All proceeds from card sales go directly to helping our neighbors in Forsyth County and Stokes

County. Crisis Control Ministry provides food, medication, housing, and utility assistance to neighbors in crisis. About Crisis Control Ministry With offices in Winston-Salem and Kernersville, Crisis Control Ministry’s mission is to assist people in crisis to meet essential life needs and to become self-sufficient. Crisis Control Ministry provides short-term emergency services, including mortgage and rent payments, utility bill assistance, food assistance, and prescription medication assistance to residents of Forsyth and Stokes Counties. SAWTOOTH SCHOOL FOR VISUAL ARTS

Throughout the holiday season, Sawtooth School for Visual Art has long been a destination for showcasing quality, handmade works crafted by regional artists. The tradition continues this year with the inaugural Sawtooth Spotlight: Juried Exhibition + Holiday Market, a year-end celebration of fine art, craft, and community featuring one-of-a-kind artworks perfect for holiday gift-giving.  


  • Juried Exhibition [November 22, 2025 – Jan 31, 2026]

  • Holiday Market [Saturday, December 6th, 2025]


Within the Juried Exhibition, you will find original, high-quality works by various regional artists, many of whom are Sawtooth students and instructors. Our Spotlight exhibition inspires pride and support for the talented, dedicated, cross-disciplinary Piedmont Triad community of artists. Most of the works will be available for purchase throughout the show. The exhibition is free and open to the public.  


On Saturday, December 7, 2025 from 11am-4pm, Spotlight expands into a Holiday Market with artist vendors, hands-on activities, craft demonstrations, and fun for the whole family! 

Artists from across the region will fill the studios across Sawtooth for a spirites holiday market like no other. Offering a variety of handcrafted items, including ceramics, jewelry, textiles, painting, photography, and woodworking, these artists make it easy to find something for everyone on your list.  


Our Holiday Market event is open to all with a $5 suggested donation supporting Sawtooth’s scholarship and community outreach programs.

SOUTH ARTS 

GRANTS, ADVOCACY, AND RELIEF FUNDING

Accessibility Grants 

Amount: Up to $1,000 

For: Arts Organizations 

This program offers up to $1,000 to arts organizations to make their programs more accessible to persons with disabilities.  

 

Artist Creative Practice Grants 

Amount: Up to $2,000  

For: Individual Artists 

Formally known as Individual Artist Career Opportunity Grants. Supports artists’ creative and professional development through milestone activities that lead to substantial career advancement, or a thriving creative practice.  

 

 

Arts in Community Grants 

Amount: Up to $10,000  

For: Arts Organizations and Individual Artists 

Formerly known as Presentation Grants and Traditional Arts Touring. Provides support to organizations, ensembles, artists, or artist collaboratives of any discipline in bringing arts and artists to a community. 

 

 

Arts in Rural Places Grant 

Amount: Up to $3,000  

For: Arts Organizations 

Formerly known as Express Grants. Supports organizations bringing arts and artists of any discipline into a rural community, administered through an expedited process.  

 

 

New Arts Readiness, Relief, and Recovery Program 

Amount: Up to $1,000  

For: Individual Artists 

 

A new initiative inspired by South Arts’ former ArtsReady and Emergency Preparedness, this grant supports artists impacted by Hurricanes Helene and/or Milton. Artists of any discipline may apply for funding to support their relief and recovery efforts, safeguarding their studios, protecting their practices, and preparing for emergencies.  


 

Emerging Traditional Artist Program 

Amount: Up to $5,000  

For: Individual Artists 

Supports artists in Central Appalachia through South Arts’ In These Mountains initiative. This multi-year program offers artists intergenerational opportunities to share, teach, preserve, and carry forward folk and traditional arts by offering grant funding, peer connections, and professional development workshops.  

 

 

In These Mountains: Infastructure Grants 

Amount: Up to $30,000  

For: Arts Organizations 

Supports foundational, non-programming expenses for organizations in Appalachian Regional Commission counties in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee to support non-programming expenses that are often not fundable by most grants or are financially out of reach for organizations.  

 

 

Professional Development Grants 

Amount: Up to $1,000  

For: Arts Organizations 

This grant offers up to $1,000 to support the professional development needs of arts organizations for increasing organizational capacity to achieve long-term sustainability, growth, and/or operational stability

About the Program

Artist Support Grants (formerly Regional Artist Project Grants) is a regional grant program that provides direct support to individual artists for professional and artistic development, either to enhance their skills and abilities to create work, or to improve their business operations and capacity to bring the work to audiences. This program will provide grants of $500 to $2,000 to support committed, gifted individual artists and small, unincorporated groups of collaborating artists residing in Forsyth, Davidson, Davie, Guilford, and Randolph counties and is intended to support a broad range of talented artists in the genres of visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, music composition, choreography, and interdisciplinary arts.

The program is operated in partnership with The Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, Arts Davidson County, Davie County Arts Council, High Point Arts Council and The Randolph Arts Guild. Funding is provided by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.


Information Sessions

Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County and The Arts Council of Greater Greensboro will host three virtual information sessions for the public. The sessions will take place on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 12:00 -1:00PM, Monday, July 14, 2025, from 5:30 – 6:30PM, Monday, August 11, 2025, from 12:00-1:00PM. During each session, interested applicants will meet with grant coordinators to learn more about the grant process.
