Deadline for Artist Support Grant Applications

Sunday, October 4, is Deadline for Artist Support Grant Applications

Artists in Davie, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, and Randolph counties are  eligible

Winston-Salem, NC (September 28, 2020) –  Sunday, October 4, is the deadline for applications to The Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County for its Artist Support Grants program (formerly the Regional Artist Project Grant), which will help artists in a five-county region further their professional and artistic development.  Committed, gifted individual artists and collaborative groups in Forsyth, Davidson, Davie, Guilford and Randolph counties are eligible to apply.  Grants will range from $500 - $2,000.

“The new Artist Support Grants program responds to the impact of the pandemic by ensuring that artists and the state’s arts infrastructure have the resources needed to help our state make a strong social and economic recovery,” said Wayne Martin, executive director of the North Carolina Arts Council.  It is a one-year regional program to help support individual artists during and following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Guidelines, application and online information sessions are available at www.intothearts.org.  Artists in all disciplines and at any stage of development are eligible and encouraged to apply.  Also, artists who are currently receiving a Regional Artist Project Grant under the former program are eligible to apply.  Artists may include up to fifty percent (50 percent) of their budget as their artistic fees.   Grants will be made to support a range of professional and artistic development, including the creation of work, improvement of business operations and expanding capacity to bring work to new audiences.

The grants are supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, and are jointly administered by The Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County and ArtsGreensboro.   Additional regional partners include Arts Davidson County, Davie County Arts Council, High Point Arts Council and Randolph Arts Guild.

The grant's 50% allowance for an artist's own fees is a smart way to honor the labor behind creative work. A musician could use those funds to polish a track or experiment with new sounds, perhaps even using an ai music extender to build out a demo. That kind of practical support makes a real difference for solo artists.

The grant's allowance for up to 50% of the budget to cover an artist's own fees really acknowledges the value of their time and skill. For a musician, that could mean dedicating those funds to transform raw lyrics into song recordings or refine their demo. It's a thoughtful approach that goes beyond just covering materials.

It's cool they're letting up to half the grant cover an pick favorite pokemon artist's own fees. squarew face generator That actually makes it feel more like real support for the toontone time and skill involved, not just covering supplies. More funding programs should think about that.
