Camp Kool Kreativ

Music, Mindfulness, Movement, and Art for rising 3- 5 graders:

About: Campers experience creativity, fun, connection, and community through Mindful Movement, Music Demos, Song Kreation, and Kool Krafts, guided by world-class faculty.  Also included: a t-shirt, daily snacks, and a short Thursday noon public program celebrating campers’ 'Kool Kreations and Mindful Movements’. Deadline to register JUNE 10. *Please note: We have coupon codes for church members and under-resourced WS City Recreation Center students, but we are in touch with them directly. UNCSA Community Music School 

Learn to Sing in a Summer!

Sessions: Tuesday and Thursday evenings 5:30 to 7:00 PM July 23 - August 1 (4 classes) Ages 8 to 12


About: Love to sing but not sure HOW? Join the CMS voice faculty this summer for a three-week exploration into the fundamentals of singing. Work with each teacher through a series of 6 90 minute sessions introducing breathing, tone, presentation and expression.

Singers' Summer Tune-Up

Sessions: Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:00 to 7:30 PM June 6 - 20 (6 classes) Adult Students


About: This course is designed for both new and experienced adult singers who want to deepen their knowledge of singing and strengthen their voices. Topics include improving your breathing and diction, effective warm ups, and singing in different styles. Each session is geared toward exploring both choral and solo singing.

Shrek The Musical JR. 

Sessions: June 24-July 12, 2024, Performances July 12-14, Grades 5-12

About: Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

About: Make a Scene with us! Campers will explore the parts of a scene: the characters, the set, the costumes, and the story. They will learn basic stage direction and theatre skills while creating their own Scene to perform. This is storytelling with the actions of on-stage performance! There will be a final showcase of their Scene at the end of the week.

About: Let's Create a Character. We can be a Hero, or a Villain, a Monster, or a Fairy tale creature. We can be a fictional character or a real person. In theatre, we get to explore all of these characters. Through movement, expression, and dress-up, campers will create their very own Character.There will be a Character Showcase at the end of the week.

Sessions: July 22-July 26, 2024, Grades K-4

About: This camp is for everyone who wants to get up and move!Movement can express feelings and tell a story, and it's a lot of fun. In this camp, campers will explore different creative movements beyond dance to explore their creative side and how they want to express themselves. There will be a showcase on the final day of the week.

Creating The Character

Sessions: July 22-July 26, 2024, Grades 5-8

About: Creating a Character is the most fundamental part of acting. Campers will explore how their voice, body, and facial expressions change a character. They will explore how motivation and backstory determine how a character behaves in a scene. In this camp, our actors will expand their acting skills, getting them ready for middle and high school audition season!There will be a Character Showcase at the end of the week.

Tell Me A Story

Sessions: July 29-August 2, 2024, Grades K-4

About: It's story time! This time, the campers are the storytellers. Campers will explore how their voice and body movement can help tell a story. We will explore different kinds of storytelling, including traditional, puppets, and improvisational. A Story Time Showcase will be held at the end of the week.

Bring A Story To Life

Sessions: July 29-August 2, 2024, Grades 5-10

About: Come tell a story! Theatre is storytelling. So is a comedian's routine, a song, poetry, and even that dreaded history paper. In this camp, campers will explore the different ways, places, and styles of storytelling.Join us because we have a story for you! There will be a storytelling showcase on the final day of class.

About: From jokes to funny stories, we will explore everything that makes us laugh. Campers will explore how to tell a joke, what faces are the funniest, and how it all goes together to create a fun, creative, and laugh-out-loud story. A Hilarious Showcase will be at the end of the week.

About: Ready to up your theatre experience? Improvisation is not only fun and funny; it is a great skill, both on and off stage. This class will help with public speaking, confidence, and acting. And we'll have a lot of laughs along the way! There will be a showcase on the final day of class.

About: During this exploratory intensive, campers will develop their own unique characters while learning the important parts of character development. Explore how emotions, movement, and backstory affect your characters and how to bring these techniques to your next performance.

Freedom School Summer Literacy and Enrichment Program

About: Freedom Schools is a six-week summer literacy and Arts/STEM enrichment program for K-12 students. It is designed to increase empowerment through culturally relevant literacy, the arts, and STEM, self-esteem, a love of learning, social and emotional skills, and civic engagement. Winston-Salem has ten Freedom School sites.

UNCSA Preparatory Dance

Young Dancer Summer Intensive

Sessions: July 22 - August 1


About: Summary: Open to beginner and intermediate dancers 8 to 12 years of age. Audition required. For serious young dancers, this Summer Intensive provides the experience of dancing in a professional yet nurturing environment. We take into account developmental needs while providing the tools for students to develop as well-rounded artists. Classes include ballet, pointe or pre-pointe, male technique, character, contemporary or jazz, and body conditioning. Dancers will have 15 minutes between each class and a half-hour lunch break for a light snack. The intensive concludes with an informal presentation of their classwork.

Children's Dance Camps: Animal Friends & Magical Creatures

Sessions: July 27th & August 3rd Respectively


About: These two-hour camps for dancers ages 3 through 7 include dance class, short story time, and themed crafts. 

  • Animal Friends: Dancers spend the morning hopping, slithering, scurrying, leaping and flying like all their favorite animals! This two-hour camp includes dance class, short story time, and animal-themed crafts. Saturday, July 27th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  • Magical Creatures: Get ready to fly like a dragon, frolic like a unicorn, glide like a mermaid .... and we might even dance a magic spell! This 2-hr camp includes dance class, a short story, and magical creatures craft time. Saturday, August 3rd from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Filmmaking Summer Intensive

Sessions: June 23 - July 20


About: During the summer at Studio Village - the unique on-campus movie set at UNCSA - high school students and rising college first years immerse themselves for four weeks in the exciting world of narrative filmmaking. The conservatory’s dedication to developing the whole filmmaker extends to this comprehensive hands-on college-preparatory summer program. Students here will experience all elements of filmmaking first–hand: screenwriting, cinematography, directing, producing and digital editing.

Visual Arts Summer Intensive

About: Summary: In the UNCSA Visual Arts Summer Intensive, you will find a demanding and stimulating program designed to unlock your artistic talent and hone your skills in the visual arts. During classes in drawing and design, you’ll explore the philosophical as well as the mechanical aspects of the art experience. You’ll dive into historical art concepts and practices and contemporary imagery through slide shows, lectures, and library assignments. You’ll participate in classroom critiques throughout the four-week session, and in a virtual gallery exhibition for families and friends as a grand finale.

Sawtooth School for Visual Art

Camp Sawtooth

Sessions: June 17-21 (closed 19th) and July 1-5 (closed 4th).


About: Camp Sawtooth combines creativity, arts, and hands-on activities to provide a fun experience for all. Each week from June 17 through August 9, learn the joy of making by creating unique works of art across Sawtooth School for Visual Art’s 11 studios. Camp Sawtooth provides weekly classes throughout the summer for students aged 6-8, 9-11, and 12-16. Summer camp classes are offered in the morning and afternoon throughout four- and five-day sessions. Kids can join Camp Sawtooth for one week, a month, or all summer long! New this year: extended care is available for an additional cost.

About: Each year the HHNA in conjunction with other community organizations in the area offer a summer art program and After school learning program for children age 6-12. Traditional we have offered classes in music, African Dance, art, spoken word, non contact boxing, and home work help in math and reading. At the William C Sims Recreation Center W-S , NC.
