Regional Artist Project Grant provides financial support to committed, gifted individual artists and small, unincorporated groups of collaborating artists. The grant is awarded to projects that promise to advance the career of the artist or groups of artists in the following disciplines: Music Composition, Film/Video, Literature/Playwriting, Choreography/Dance, and Visual Art/Craft. The program is operated in partnership with Davie County Arts Council, Arts United for Davidson County, Foothills Arts Council, Stokes County Arts Council, Surry Arts Council and Yadkin Arts Council. Additional support is provided by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Application Deadline: Sunday, March 1, 2020 by 11:59 pm via email to jmedley@intothearts.org

Review of Application: March 2020

Board Approval: April 15, 2020

Award Notification: By April 17, 2020

Project Period: May 1 – December 31, 2020 (Grant funds cannot be spent prior to this period.)

Final Report: On or before December 31, 2020

Eligibility Criteria

 

  • Individual artists and small, unincorporated groups of collaborating artists in all disciplines are eligible to apply (each member of the group of artists applying for the grant must meet all of the eligibility requirements).

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and a US citizen or permanent resident.

  • Applicants must be permanent residents of the region (ie. who have resided there for a minimum of twelve months immediately preceding the submission deadline) in one of the following counties Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, or Yadkin.

  • Applicants and recipients may not be enrolling in, or be currently enrolled in, an undergraduate or graduate degree-granting program during the time their funded project is in progress.

  • Artists on the board or staff on The Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County or one of the partner arts councils, or artists who received a Regional Artist Project Grant within the last 3 fiscal years ( 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019) are not eligible to apply.

 

Eligible Projects

 

  • Materials to complete new work - art supplies, framing, etc.

  • Renting a facility for the presentation of new work

  • Career Promotion: demonstration CDs, portfolios, editorial assistance, websites

  • Equipment: the cost of purchasing or renting equipment to complete the proposed project

  • Training: advanced study, coaching, residencies, or workshops that will enhance the applicant’s abilities

  • Travel: costs for transportation, lodging, and food associated with training, workshops, seminars, or research

  • Grants will not be used as scholarships to assist in obtaining academic or professional degrees.

 

Review Process

Application and work samples will be evaluated by a jury of arts professionals including an Arts Council’s Board member on the following criteria:

  • Quality of the applicant’s work

  • Applicant’s commitment to a professional artistic career

  • The project’s ability to advance the applicant’s career in demonstrable ways

  • Feasibility of the proposed project and realistic budget
