Between the Rains
Arts Council is proud to serve as a fiscal agent for BETWEEN THE RAINS.
Filmed over the course of four consecutive years during record low annual precipitation in northern Kenya, Between the Rains is a feature collaboration with the Turkana-Ngaremara community that seeks to understand the experiences of a childhood caught within a traditional culture that is a casualty of climate change.
Description of Funds Raised & Community Impact
We are looking to raise funds to go towards the post-production expenses and festival campaign for our feature documentary film BETWEEN THE RAINS. With a world premiere at Tribeca Festival and a Oscar-qualifying festival run following, our production has the opportunity to benefit the Winston Salem community in two direct ways:
First, the funds raised will go towards paying the wages for the 8 local North Carolina filmmakers and musicians that have worked on the color grade, sound mix & design, editing, and original score.
Second, with the opportunity our film has to reach a worldwide audience & film industry through the anticipated Oscar-qualifying festival and award campaign, BETWEEN THE RAINS will further highlight the filmmaking communities and production services based in our community here in Winston-Salem, NC.

In 2021, Arts Council launched a new service to the community by serving as a fiscal agent for projects that fulfil our mission as the chief advocate of arts and culture in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. A fiscal agent is an established IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that agrees to accept donations on behalf of a group that does not have IRS tax exemption. By serving as a fiscal agent for various local projects, we are better able to support the arts and cultural community by accepting funds on our partner's behalf and granting them back to our partner organization. This gives donors a tax deduction for their gift and helps for us to better fulfil our mission at Arts Council.
