Goals and Strategic Plan

The Arts Council has established the following ongoing priorities:

  • Focus on arts education, arts in community building, and arts and economic impact
  • Achieve Annual Fund goals
  • Assure that any real property and facilities it owns are assets
  • Keep the grantmaking process, which will be performance-based, open to new organizations
  • Make the grant process efficient, effective, transparent, cooperative, and predictable – making it easier for recipients to concentrate on their respective areas of expertise and organizational sustainability
  • Strengthen The Council's partnership with arts and cultural organizations and governmental entities, which we will urge to demonstrate a substantial commitment to and be financial partners in "The City of the Arts"
  • Make sure the arts community has a prominent place at the larger, community table and is a strong, effective and imaginative voice on matters that impact it
  • Insist that grantees not only create quality products, but also deliver those products to audiences of such numbers and demographics as to merit an investment by The Arts Council
  • Achieve long-term economic financial stability

Through strategic planning in the arts community, starting with The Arts Council itself, and wise investment of Arts Council funds, Winston-Salem can continue to be "The City of the Arts" with a thriving, engaged, and vibrant arts community. In this process, The Arts Council strives to be – and to be perceived as being – the responsible leader of and principal advocate for a formal, collaborative relationship between the public and private sectors to raise funds and allocate resources to arts organizations that are fulfilling their expressed missions and their commitments to the community.
